Romanian and Moldovan Presidents agree on quickly drawing up action plan for implementing strategic partnership

President Traian Basescu said on Thursday that, together with interim President of the Republic of Moldova Marian Lupu, he established that the action plan for putting into effect the strategic partnership for European integration should be drawn up as soon as possible.

'I and President Lupu have practically approached the whole range of domestic and foreign political questions. Our message to the President and the parties in the Alliance [for European integration] is that we want an alliance as solid as possible that should guarantee the progress of the Republic of Moldova to Europe. Together with President Lupu I have established that, as soon as possible, we should have to draw up the action plan for putting into effect the statement on the strategic partnership for European integration between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, a statement signed by me and President Ghimpu at that time,' said President Basescu at the end of the official talks with Marian Lupu.

Basescu made it clear that the talks with Lupu were very good and observed the tradition of the dialogue between Bucharest and Chisinau in the past two years. According to him, the sides also approached the priorities of the Republic of Moldova concerning the EU. Traian Basescu reiterated Romania's support to the European road of the neighbouring country.

'I have assured President Lupu of our entire support. ... Last but not least, we have dealt with the priorities in the bilateral relation and they were to be found first of all in the energy field, projects of interconnecting our power grids and the gas carrying pipes. We have also held talks about using the money allocated through the Eastern Partnership,' concluded Basescu.
Interim President Lupu: Republic of Moldova is interested in drawing Romanian investments
Interim President of the Republic of Moldova Marian Lupu, during the talks he held with Romania's President Traian Basescu in Bucharest on Thursday, stressed the interest taken by his country in 'massively drawing' Romanian investments.

'Economic relations, trade relations have been talked about during today's meeting. Romania is a strategic partner and for the Republic of Moldova it comes second in point of Moldovan exports and third in point of the imports from the Republic of Moldova. I have mentioned the interest taken by my state in massively drawing Romanian investments to the economy of the Republic of Moldova, which today account for about 8 percent of all the investments. I am sure there are possibilities and additional reserves in this respect,' said Lupu in a press statement made at the Cotroceni Palace at the end of the official talks with Traian Basescu.

According to Agerpres, he described the opening of the consulates in Balti and Cahul as quite important for the cooperation between the two countries and thanked Romania for the support in the negotiations the Republic of Moldova is conducting with the EU.

'The Republic of Moldova is now part of the Eastern Partnership, which it joined together with another five countries. I want to thank President Basescu once again for Romania's supporting the Republic of Moldova in the negotiations we are conducting with the EU for an association agreement, in the dialogue referring to the liberalization of the visa regime and in the negotiations I hope will soon begin for an agreement on creating a free trade area. I shall take this opportunity to extent President Basescu the invitation to pay an official visit to the Republic of Moldova when he thinks it possible,' said Lupu, who is on a two-day official visit to Bucharest.
