Announcement of privatization of Romanian Post National Company to be published in international press next week
The announcement of the privatization of the Romanian Post National Company (CNPR) will be published in the international press next week and the deadline for completion of this procedure is June 15, 2013, Dan Nica, Minister for the information society said on the occasion of the hearings in front of the Parliament's specialized joint committees, organized for giving their assent to the institution's budget for 2013.
'In connection with the Romanian Post, we will publish early next week, in the international press, such as the Financial Times, the announcement of the privatization procedure. The Romanian state does not plan to take anything from the increase of the company's share capital. We are to issue an Emergency Ordinance in the first week of February, referring to the postal services because, from January 1, 2013, the profile market has been opened', Nica also said.
The official mentioned, during the hearings, that representatives of the international financial forums appreciated the way in which the privatization timetable of the Romanian Post was observed and that over 30 names appear on the list of those interested in acquiring a majority stake in the company, although in the stage of 'non-binding' interest.
'The assessment of representatives of the European Commission, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund as for the Romanian Post is that all procedures were done on time and professionally. As well, that what we submitted as document, respectively the timetable (of privatization - editor's note) is professional and well done. The privatization process should be completed according to the timetable we have submitted, and which is made by KPMG, by June 15 (2013 - editor's note). There are many things that are called non-binding letters, in which some of them still raised a number of questions. If you ask me about the list of non-binding contacts for the Romanian Post, this would exceed the figure of 30. Now, we are entering a phase when the privatization announcement will be published in the international press, after which we will enter the official zone. Since that moment we are to solely discuss about binding letters, in which those interested in are to express their intention to participate in a binding way. Then, the list will be greatly reduced ', the Minister for information society explained.
Victor Ponta: Romanian Post privatization must be completed by mid-year
The privatization procedure in the case of the Romanian Post must be completed by mid-year, Premier Victor Ponta told a press conference at the Victoria Palace on Monday.
'The Romanian Post continues its privatization procedure. I believe it must be completed at mid-year, practically, the winner needs to be designated and the contract signed,' Ponta said, being asked by the media, after the meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, about the privatization of this company.
The Romanian authorities had committed to find, by the end of June 2012, a strategic investor taking over 20 percent of the CNPR shares, following a share capital increase. The initial deadline for the Romanian Post privatization, through share capital increase, was the end of March 2012.
