Number of e-businesses in Romania, Bulgaria lowest in EU
The number of businesses with online sales in Romania and Bulgaria was the lowest among EU countries in 2016, the Eurostat's data said quoted by seenews.com.
Romanian and Bulgarian companies which generated online sales in 2016 represented 7% and 9%, respectively, of the companies operating in those two countries, Eurostat said in its Digital economy and society in the EU publication. These figures compare to an EU average of 20%.
Clothes and sporting goods was the top category of online purchases in EU.
The highest shares of online shoppers who ordered clothes and/or sports goods during the previous year was registered in Bulgaria - 78%, Malta and the United Kingdom - 72% each. Ordering clothes and/or sports goods via the internet was most widespread among younger e-shoppers aged 16 to 24 years in Bulgaria (89%), Slovakia (81%) and Romania (80%).
The publication also examined the use of cloud services by individuals and businesses in the EU.
The number of businesses which purchased cloud services in Bulgaria and Romania in 2016, was also lowest in Europe - 7% and 9%, respectively. The percentage of people using cloud services in Bulgaria among internet users in the country was 24% - the second lowest in EU, after Poland with 21%.
