Romania's mergers and acquisition market is estimated to 3.4 - 4 billion Euros in 2016

Romania's mergers and acquisition market is estimated to 3.4 - 4 billion Euros in 2016, increasing by 23 percent, from approximately 2.7 billion Euros in the previous year, Financial Advisory Partner with Deloitte Romania Ioana Filipescu stated on last Wednesday.

"The year 2016 was exceptionally good in the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) market, both from the volume point of view - between 3.4 and 4 billion Euros, but as well in respect to the number of transactions, the average value of a transaction and the number of large transactions. The end of the year was decisive in the market's development," Ioana Filipescu explained.

According to the company's data, in Romania, in 2016, a number of 85 transactions were carried out of over 5 million Euros and three mega-transactions of over 500 million Euros. The average value of a transaction was 43 million Euros.

In different areas, given the overall volume, the most important transactions were carried out in the Fast-moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) worth 856 million Euros, followed by oil and gas, with total transactions of 595 million Euros and retail with 533 million Euros.

According to Ioana Filipescu, the domestic market is very weak, and the transactions are watching the foreign direct investments curve.

For 2017 the Deloitte representatives are expecting a M&A market of approximately 3 billion Euros, by reducing the number of mega-transactions. This year we could witness mega-transactions in the financial services area or in the energy area, Ioana Filipescu believes.
