Ambassador Xu Feihong: Chinese enterprises are interested in investing in Suceava, Romania, but partners, information lack

Chinese ambassador in Bucharest Xu Feihong on Wednesday attended the establishment in the eastern city of Suceava of the Romanian-Chinese House and the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and met officials of the local and county administrations as well as business leaders.

The Chinese diplomat said the establishment of the Romanian-Chinese House will provide China and the county of Suceava with a cooperation platform.

He highlighted the importance of such organisation to the capitalisation on and the development of bilateral relationships, as well as to the advancement of trade and economic exchanges.

Xu Feihong said Chinese enterprises are interested in investing in Romania's Suceava County, but he said information is missing, yet he is hopeful the Romanian-Chinese House and the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce will do more in the future to develop commercial ties.

''This is a big event to us, to you and to the Chinese Embassy. It is a new cooperation platform for Suceava and China. Human exchanges are an important part of the bilateral relationships. Now that the house of friendship is established, we will double our efforts to advance ties between Suceava and China (...) Chinese enterprises are interested in Suceava County and Romania, but partners and exchanges of information are absent. I am hopeful that in the future, this house will do more to advance the relations,'' the Chinese ambassador said, giving assurances that the Chinese Embassy in Romania will provide assistance and consulting services to facilitate these ties.

Attending the event, Suceava County Council Chairman Gheorghe Flutur unveiled the county's business and travel opportunities, mentioning that Suceava County in 2009 entered a partnership with a Chinese province.

President of the Stefan Cel Mare University of Suceava (USV) Valentin Popa said a Chinese language lecturer has been providing classes in Chinese, attended so far by 270 students, 50 of whom have won international Chinese proficiency certification.

Popa said work is being conducted on opening a Chinese Language programme, while Romanian Language lecturer's office will open at the Hebei University in China.

Under this programme, he said, USV will welcome 50 students from China starting in the 2017-2018 academic year.
