CFA Romania: We may end this year with an inflation rate slightly below 8%
The inflation rate might be, this year, slightly under 8%, but probably in the first quarter of 2024 we will have an increase of prices, as there will be new taxes, stated on Thursday, in a conference of economic issues, Adrian Codirlasu, vice chairman of CFA Romania.
‘We are on a dropping trend of inflation. This year might be closed with an inflation rate slightly under eight percentage points. The disinflationist process will continue next year as well, but it will not be easy (…) we will have an episode in Q1 of increase of prices, after which the inflation will continue to drop. I would say that we could get somewhere towards 6% at the end of next year, even slightly under. I think that we will have higher inflation for a long time, we will get to the target of 2.5% with much difficulty. Until then, no central bank gave a sigh of raising the target’ explained the CFA Romania representative.
In August, BNR revised upwards, at 7.5% the inflation prognosis for the end of this year and at 4.4% for the end of 2024.
The specialists and consultants in the banking system recently participated in the online conference with the topic ‘The evolution of interests in the context of inflation adjustment’.
