Chief diplomats of Slovakia, Poland, Norway and Jordan, invited to attend the 2015 Annual Meeting of Romania's Diplomacy
The chief diplomats of Slovakia, Poland, Norway and Jordan have been invited to attend the 2015 Annual Meeting of Romania's Diplomacy (RADR) to be held September 1-5 in Bucharest. This year's edition will reflect Romania's attention to the context in its extended neighbourhood, particularly the eastern and southern neighbourhoods of NATO and the EU.
Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) says the theme of this year's edition will be "Romania and security challenges at the borders of the European and Euro-Atlantic space. Risks, opportunities and diplomatic action."
"The worldwide security challenges in 2014 and 2015 have made Romania's diplomacy be proactive and dynamic, besides reacting, in order to best protect the wider interests of Romania, coming up with proposals and solutions that converge toward the same aim: making Romania safer in all terms, in a complex time," says MAE.
Special guests this year are Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna, Slovakia's Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, Norway's Foreign Minister Borge Brende and Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh. Also attending will be Romanian diplomats holding important offices in international organisations, including Sorin Ducaru, assistant to the NATO secretary general, and Cornel Feruta, chief coordinator with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
MAE says the Polish chief diplomat will be the keynote speaker of a plenary session that discusses the revision of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the essential part of the Eastern Partnership, while the Slovak foreign minister will be the keynote speaker at a session on the current challenges on the EU agenda and the beginning of preparations for holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The keynote speaker of the plenary session on the developments in the Southern Neighbourhood almost five years after the beginning of the Arab Spring, as well as the challenges and opportunities thereof will by the Jordanian foreign minister, while the Norwegian foreign minister will be the keynote speaker of a session on security issues, the regional security context and collective defence as well as NATO's adjustments.
MAE also says that the Annual Meeting of Romania's Diplomacy will unfold simultaneously with the Embassies' Festival, an event devoted to the foreign embassies accredited to Bucharest, to be organised by the ESCU Association under MAE's aegis.
The first edition of the Embassies' Festival called 'Open your Culture,' is held September 1-5 in four venues in Bucharest City; as many as 50 foreign embassies, cultural institutes and international organisations will be attending the event, offering cultural and artistic activities, culinary demos and tasting shows, music and dance performances, presentation of handcrafts and customs from all over the world, children's shows and captivating cultural diplomacy activities, MAE reports.
