Cooperation agreements in the research, innovation and healthcare areas signed by PM Dancila and Portuguese counterpart Costa în Lisbon
Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced on Wednesday, after the meeting that she had in Lisbon with her Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa, that a working group for the exchange of good practices in the European funds area will be established. Furthermore, Viorica Dancila mentioned that she talked with Antonio Costa about the bilateral relations between Romania and Portugal, as well as about intensifying the economic relations.
"We have talked about a better cooperation and about establishing a roadmap for an inter-governmental cooperation between Romania and Portugal, but also about boosting the relations at Parliament level. From an economic point of view, we had a sectorial approach, we talked about shared points, points for which we want to intensify the cooperation (...). Today we made a first step by signing some cooperation agreements in the research, innovation and healthcare areas," Dancila stated. The Romanian PM mentioned that she also talked with her Portuguese counterpart about the multiannual financial framework.
According to a press statement released by the Romanian government, the talks confirmed the interest of both countries in further developing their privileged relationship. "In that regard, the two officials agreed to develop a roadmap for effective implementation of joint bilateral co-operation projects, as well as military, strategic and cyber security co-operation. They also hailed the excellent defence and security co-operation between the two countries voicing intention to deepen it with a view to capitalising on the special potential created by the successful F-16 programme in areas such as military equipment and technology research and cyber security."
The government also points out that prospects for relaunching cooperation in road, rail and airport infrastructure were also discussed, given the successful projects made of the past conducted with partners in Portugal.
The government also said that part of Dancila's official visit a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed that allow the drawing of joint projects in the following areas: research, innovation and health: a memorandum on scientific collaboration for the implementation of the Extreme Nuclear Physics Infrastructure Project (ELI-NP) between Romania's Horia Hulubei National Institute of Research and Development for Physics and Nuclear Engineering and Instituto Superior Tecnico of Portugal; a co-operation agreement between the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Targu Mures and the University of Lisbon; a memorandum of understanding on health policies between Romania's Ministry of Health and Portugal's Ministry of Health.
