Economy Ministry launches public debate on ACTA

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA) web page launched public debate on the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), specifying that Romania's Parliament must carry out eight procedural stages, the ratification included, till ACTA comes into force.

The Ministry will initiate several public debates on the topic, and representatives of all the environments, which the ACTA regulations are aimed at, are invited to attend, MECMA release informed on Wednesday Feb 1.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) is reached among the EU Member States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and the United States.
ACTA's coming into force in Romania needs the European Parliament's assent, in summer 2012, MECMA sources say. The EU Council will adopt ACTA independently of its ratification by the national parliaments, and Romania's Parliament is to pass it, after.

In Romania, in compliance with the Law No. 522003 on decisional transparency in public administration, the public information proceedings are carried out when normative acts are passed or public sittings are organized. In case of all the international treaties, the proceedings regarding the decisional transparency happens when a treaty is ratified, joined or approved. And the ratification law on ACTA will be publicly debated, MECMA release concludes.
