European commissioner for health and food safety will analyse swine fever situation in Romania
Vytenis Andriukaitis, the European commissioner for health and food safety, will analyse, together with the technical staff, the situation of African swine flu in Romania and what measures can be adopted to increase efficiency in fighting and eradicating it, the Ministry of Agriculture informs.
On September 6, there was a conference in Brussels about cross border diseases in Europe, with the participation of 41 countries. Petre Daea, the Romanian minister of agriculture and Traian Petcu, undersecretary of state participated.
“commissioner Andriukaitis was very interested in talks and said he would analyse the evolution of swine flu in Romania and the measures to be adopted to increase efficiency in fighting and eradicating it,” the Ministry added.
According to the document, one of the conclusions of the conference was that cross border diseases cannot be eradicated without the farmers’ cooperation, as well as the need for international cooperation in preventing the spreading of diseases.
“Present mechanisms are costly, consuming financial, human and administrative resources and have important economic and social impact. As a means of approach, the allocation of distinct and consisting amounts of money for research is necessary. Romania will be part of the joint fight against animal diseases, using experience and thorough interpretation of their evolution, to improve work methods so necessary in their eradication,” the quoted source mentions.
