Eurostat: Romanian government deficit recorded the peak growth in EU in Q1 of 2017

Romania's government deficit recorded the peak growth in the European Union in the first quarter of 2017, namely 1.3 percentage points, from 1.8 percent deficit of the GDP in Q4 2016, until a 3.2 percent deficit of the GDP in Q1 2017, the data released on Thursday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) say.

According to the source, the gov't deficit of Romania was thus thrice the EU deficit (1 percent of the GDP), with only France exceeding Romania's gov't deficit in Q1 (3.3 percent of the GDP).

Romania is among the EU member states with lowest level of gov't debt, being overlapped by Estonia (9.2 percent of the GDP), Luxembourg (23 percent), Bulgaria (28.6 percent) and Denmark (36.7 percent).

According to Eurostat, Romania's government debt in Q1 (37.1 percent of the GDP) is way below EU's average (84.1 percent of the GDP) and the Eurozone's (89.5 percent).
