Exports worth bln. 50 euros are expected in 2012

National Association of Romanian Exporters and Importers(ANEIR) hopes Romania attains exports worth 50 billion euros in 2012, co-president of Romania's Export Council and ANEIR secretary general Mihai Ionescu told a news conference, on Monday.

'We haven't lost hope that we'll succeed exports to exceed the barrier of 45 billion euros, and reach 50 billion euros, this year. Current data give no reason to believe that exports will attain 50 billion euros, but considering there are at two production capacities, namely Ford and Oltchim, that failed delivering any product, either directly or indirectly, for two months, and if Oltchim's situation gets clear, and Fords fulfills its commitments, we will reach 50 billion euros,' said Ionescu.

According to him, the economic downturn has radically altered the export structure, 6.000 exporters, generally small and medium size companies (SMEs) went bankrupt.

''The Romanian exports topped the EU countries, in Dec 2011, in terms of recovery from the economic crisis.

SMEs have made a considerable contribution, without doubt, even if few of them are top direct Romanian exporters. More precisely one thousand of the 17,500 exporters cover over 80 percent of Romania's exports, the remainder, namely 16,500 are insignificant exporters compared to the big companies. There are many SMEs that fail belonging to the direct exporters, but they are indirect ones,' ANEIR official stressed.
