Ford of Europe COO announces Craiova plant hiring 976 people for EcoSport model production
Steven Armstrong, Ford of Europe Vice-president and Chief Operating Officer, said on Friday after the meeting in Craiova with Premier Sorin Grindeanu, that the group's representatives are satisfied with the support received from the Government and local authorities, and that 976 people will be hired in the next period at the Craiova-based plant in preparation of the production of the EcoSport model that will be launched this autumn.
We are very proud of our team here and of all the progress our factory has made in the last months, and we are very happy to be able to welcome 976 new employees at our plant in preparation of the production of the EcoSport model that will be launched in autumn this year. We had the opportunity of a highly productive discussion with Mr. Prime Minister and we are very pleased with the support we received from the Romanian Government and the local authorities; we expect the launch to be a success and that we further grow our business and our presence here, said Steven Armstrong.
"I announced Ford representatives that the design and execution documentation [for the Craiova — Pitesti motorway] will be completed by the end of May for the tender to be launched. That makes us optimistic, considering particular deadlines, and this autumn we'll have the winner of the tender. Considering the most remote deadline, the effective execution of the motorway linking Pitesti to Craiova — a thoroughfare that is extremely important not only for Ford but for Craiova and for the people here — will start early next year," Sorin Grindeanu said on Friday in Craiova, where he visited the Ford plant and met with company representatives to discuss the infrastructure in view of the start of the production of the EcoSport crossover SUV.
Ford Romania will hire 976 basic and qualified operators who will add to the current 2,715 employees of the Craiova-based assembly and engine production lines. The selection of the new employees started in April and will run until the end of July, and in August the new personnel will start an in-company training program.
Since it took over the Craiova plant in 2008, Ford has invested over 1.2 billion euro in its Romania-based production operations. The Craiova facility produces the multipurpose vehicle Ford B-Max, as well as the 1.0 EcoBoost engine, the only engine to win the International Engine of the Year Award for three consecutive years.
