Health Minister Tataru: We are in the situation where we managed the second phase of the first wave
The minister of health, Nelu Tataru stated that we had the first phase of the first wave of the pandemics of Coronavirus, and after the first measures of relaxation it was noticed a growing trend of the number of cases. September represents ‘ a real challenge’, according to the minister.
‘We had the first phase or hump, as I like to call it, until we started the relaxation measures when we were on the descending trend, as you know, the first week of June were the lowest number of cases, 120-130 -140, new cases every day. The reset of some rules, once we started relaxation, that crisis where there is the trend of disregarding rules when we paid the success of managing the first months of pandemics, the apparition of influencers who urged people to disrespect the rules, the lack of legislation, a period when 5,000 positive people required to leave the hospital or did not agree to be hospitalized, as a result, the beginning of August when we had to manage the effects of the almost 5,000 and it meant titanic work. ‘ We took whatever means school medicine and we sent them to DSP exactly for the management of those investigations and to update the numbers of patients we have, what happened to the old ones, how many infected the old ones and we are still under investigation. As long as we could decide, we managed this pandemics well and very well. When we could not decide anymore, the intervention of the parliament, the intervention of the Ombudsman led to that disappointment among the medical staff, that tiredness as well as the encouragement of those who did not follow the rules and did not believe in the existence of that pandemics’ Nelu Tataru said with Antena 3, on Friday night.
The minister of health considers that September is a month of challenge, especially as there were new measures of relaxation once the restaurants, theatres and cinema halls restart activity. ‘We are in the situation where we managed the second phase of the first wave, so that September represents a real challenge through new measures of relaxation, cinema halls, restaurants, theatres, the population coming back from holidays, crowding of the means of transport, school starting, electoral campaign, local elections. The ministry of education, the ministry of economy, the whole population, September being a challenge.
‘We manage everything that comes from the population as infection, as epidemiological investigations as well as treatment, civilians must obey some rules so that community transmission drops, and we have a small number of new cases to get to hospitals and we do not overpopulate emergency units and intensive care units’ stated Nelu Tataru. The minister of health announced that we are still in the first pandemic wave.
‘We are in the first pandemic wave. The ministry adapts every day, every week, depending on the evolution, the number of beds, the number of intensive care beds, equipment for intensive care beds, adapts the hospitals meant to be used for coronavirus depending on the symptoms, obeys the legislative draft when it comes to the asymptomatic patient. I think these norms are well made, we have to obey them, and in the period to come.We have the same month of September which is a challenge. We hope in October –November to have an evaluation of the new cases’ Tataru said.
