Libya, Romania sign MoU in Tripoli

Wednesday, on April 18th, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor Melescanu, had a tripartite meeting with Mohamed Taher Siala, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya, and Ghassan Salamé, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL)

The talks focused on the recent ministerial meeting of the African Union High Level Committee on Libya held in Addis Ababa on April 17th, 2018. The Minister Teodor Melescanu welcomed the joint efforts of the African Union, the UN and the European Union in managing the humanitarian situation in Libya and, in this context, reiterated the extremely important role that the Libyan neighbours, including Tunisia, have in supporting the implementation of the UN Plan for action for Libya.

On this occasion, Libya and Romania signed in Tripoli a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a shared security deliberations basis between the two countries.

The foreign minister of Libya Presidential Council government Mohammed Sayala said the visit of his Romanian counterpart is very significant as it comes before Romania chairs the EU, adding that the European country will do its best to support Libya.
