Ponta: Romania, the country most affected by drought in Europe
Premier Victor Ponta stated on Saturday that, according to the European estimates, Romania is the country the most affected by drought among European countries and required that the ministry of agriculture start procedures to support farmers. “I saw the European prognosis and it is terrible, it is terrible how much Romania could be affected, the most of all Europe, by the drought, but we must pass this difficult year and we hope that next year it will be better and we manage to recover what was left behind”,premier Ponta said, at the beginning of the government meeting, according to Mediafax.
The government discussed on Saturday the support for the farmers affected by the drought.
“Those who require financial support are eligible within the de minimis state aid being recorded with the Payment Agency with payment requests for 2012 and ask for financial support. The quota is 100 lei/ha and is offered for surfaces of at least a ha and maximum 10 ha planted with crops, including for exploitation” according to a draft decision of the government.
According to the document, the beneficiaries of the financial aid representing the de minimis state air will not be able to renounce the quality of agricultural producers who exploit the land for which they get the air for a period of three years, starting with the year when the aid was offered.
The financial resources for the implementation of the state air included in the present decision are given by the state budget.
