According to the press office of the Government, during this visit Victor Ponta will hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Iurie Leanca, together with whom he will also take part in the inauguration of the work on the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline.

The launch of the work on the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline occurs on a day of symbolic importance for the Republic of Moldova, the Independence Day. The moment stands for the effective implementation of the joint declaration on bilateral cooperation in the field of the energy security, which was signed by the two Prime Ministers on July 17, 2012, reads the official release.

'The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline concretely proves that the strategic partnership established in 2010 between Romania and the Republic of Moldova has immediate and long lasting effects for the economic development and for the citizens of the two countries. The project of the gas pipeline also reconfirms Romania's role as a crucial partner of the Republic of Moldova in the effort for European integration, including the effective physical connection to the European space,' informs the Government.

Victor Ponta will also attend the Forum of the Euroregion Siret-Prut-Dniester, which includes two counties of Romania (Iasi and Vaslui) and 23 districts of the Republic of Moldova. EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger will also take part in the event mentioned before.

'The relation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova has nowadays reached an unprecedented level. We have an extremely dense and active political dialogue and an open, result oriented approach to the concrete cooperation. Romania's Government supports the Republic of Moldova in fulfilling the pledges taken by Chisinau to the EU and, on a wider plane, in the Republic of Moldova's complete connection to the European agenda,' informs the press office of the Government in a release.
