President Traian Basescu received president of PACE at the Cotroceni Palace

President Traian Basescu on Tuesday, in the Cotroceni Palace, received president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Jean-Claude Mignon, whom he thanked for the support 'at times when the standards of the Council of Europe referring to the rule of law were violated in Romania,' in 2012.

Traian Basescu also said that Romania learnt what democracy and its principles were first of all through the agency of the Council of Europe, reads a release the Presidential Administration sent on Tuesday.

According to the above-mentioned source, Jean-Claude Mignon spoke of the priorities of his mandate and asked Romania for support to carry them out. Traian Basescu assured Jean-Claude Mignon of the fact that Romania would stay a reliable partner for achieving these goals, also informs the release issued by the Presidential Administration.

The PACE president is on an official visit to Romania. His programme on Tuesday includes meetings with Minister of Justice Mona Pivniceru, with President of the Senate Crin Antonescu, but also with representatives of the civil society.
