The Romanian Navy and a French La Fayette-class frigate will be jointly participating in an air and ground defence exercise on March 27, the Press Office of the Romanian Navy reported in a press statement on Tuesday.
The French frigate will stop over in the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta, March 24-27, to meet the Romanian fleet commander, conduct athletic activities at the Mircea cel Batran Navy Academy and tour the Museum of the Romanian Marine.
"Part of the exercise to be unfolded at sea jointly with the French navy troops, the crews of Romania's Contraamiral Horia Macellariu corvette and the Locotenent Lupu Dinescu minesweeper will consolidate their skills related to the implementation of standard NATO operation procedures as part of scenarios to secure freedom of navigation and sea traffic," according to the statement.
The La Fayette frigate to take part in the exercise is commanded by Commodore Stanislas Delatte; it was commissioned in 1996 to serve with the French National Marine. She is 125-long, equipped with Exocet MM40 block II anti-ship missiles; Crotale CN2 CIWS anti-ship missiles; 12.7-mm automatic guns; 20-mm and 100-mm cannons.
