Romgaz has started natural gas imports to cover consumption in frosty days
The National Natural Gas Company Romgaz (SNGN) SA Medias has started natural gas imports in order to ensure frosty days consumption, Romgaz SNGN announced in a press release. 'Lower air temperatures in some parts of Romania sharply increased the consumption of natural gas. Romgaz ensures a maximum production of gas from its exploited gas fields, gas mainly sold to E. ON and GDF Suez Romania, delivering it customers, according to the contracts concluded with them ', stressed the spokesman of SNGN Romgaz, deputy general manager Lucian Stancu.
He said that Romgaz has started natural gas imports on Saturday, January 28, 2012, although it has no competence in balancing the natural gas market in Romania. The Branch dealing with gas storage of Romgaz, the storage facilities operator, provided the owners of gas in the storage the maximum capacity of natural gas extraction.According to Romgaz data, at the end of the storage cycle (October 2011), the gas stocks in Romgaz deposits were at their maximum capacity.
ANM issued, on Saturday, a Code Yellow Alert of extremely low temperatures, valid until February 3, for 37 counties, including Bucharest municipality. According to the quoted source, between January 28 to February 3 this year, the Code Yellow Alert for frost was issued for Moldova, Muntenia, Oltenia, Dobrogea, Transilvania and Maramures, the lows falling on extended areas to temperatures ranging between minus 25 and minus 15 degrees Celsius.
According to data centralized by the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) , natural gas consumption in Romania totaled 133.228 million MWh in the first 11 months of 2011, being about 4.44 percent higher than that of the same period of the previous year, which amounted to 127.557 million MWh.
The domestic production of natural gas, set to enter consumption in November 2011 accounted for 82.03 percent of all sources, the top two producers (Romgaz and Petrom) covering 98.32 percent from this source.
Imports, which came into use, represented the difference, 17.97 percent respectively. The top three importers - domestic suppliers - have made together 59.46 percent.The price of natural gas from imports was, in November, 483 dollars1.000 cubic meters, higher, in dollars, from the previous month price, which was of 479 dollars1.000 cubic meters (141,61 Euros MWh).
