Traian Hristea, appointed chief of EU's delegation in Kazakhstan
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has announced that Romanian diplomat Traian Hristea was named chief of the European Union's delegation in Kazakhstan.
According to a ministry release, the decision was made by the High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as the new roster of the European External Action Service (EEAS) was announced on July 28.
Hristea had previously held the same position in Armenia during 2011-2015.
"Romania thus makes a contribution to the promotion and protection of the European Union's interests and values in the Central Asian space. I am glad to see that the expertise of the Romanian diplomacy on the eastern space, and not only, enjoys recognition and appreciation", the release quotes Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.
The ministry adds that the nomination confirms the constant efforts for a proper training of the Romanian diplomats with a view to a successful representation in EEAS as well as the active political-diplomatic campaign constantly carried out in order to promote them at all the decision-making levels of the Service.
Romania currently has 14 persons in EEAS, eight of whom at the Brussels-based head office and six in the EU delegations.
Traian Hristea has been a member of the Romanian Diplomatic and Consular Corps since 1995. He was an ambassador of Romania in Kiev during 2005-2010, and at the Foreign Ministry he headed the Directorate of Prognosis and Political Planning from 2010-2011 and was a director of the Enlarged Europe and the Republic of Moldova Directorate in 2004-2005.
