Vital statistics in November 2018: natural growth of Romania's population was a negative 6,759

  • In November 2018 the number of births decreased compared to October 2018.

  • The number of deaths and the number of deaths of children under 1 year were down from the previous month.

  • The number of marriages dropped significantly and the number of divorces fell in November 2018 compared to October 2018.

The monthly natural growth of Romania's population was a negative 6,759 in November 2018, as live births stood at 14,993 and the number of deaths was 21,752, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Monday.

According to INS comparative data, the number of newborns registered in November 2018 was by 3,138 higher than in the previous month, while the number of deaths was by 1,491 less than in October.

There were 100 deaths of infants under the age of one year in November, 6 less compared to October 2018.

A number of 7,005 marriages were registered in the same month, by 6,079 less than in October 2018, while the number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings was 2,559, by 217 less than in the previous month.

The number of November's live births was by 1,054 higher YoY, while the number of deaths was by 444 higher.

Natural growth was negative both in November 2018 (-6,759) and in November 2017 (-7,369); the number of dead infants aged less than 1 year was by 2 higher than in November 2017. 

The number of marriages was by 338 less compared to a year ago, and the number of divorces was down by 166 from the same month of reference, reads the document.
