Romania's delegation led by Prime Minister Victor Ponta, attending on Tuesday the China - Central and Eastern Europe Summit in Belgrade, brought to the fore Romania's interest in enhancing cooperation with China in various sectors, such as energy, agriculture, tourism, the Government reports in a release.

In addition, Romania's delegation suggested during the talks that Bucharest should host a center for dialogue and cooperation meant to facilitate experience and best practice sharing in the field of energy between the academic and business environments.

Belgrade hosted the third meeting of the Central and Eastern European heads of government, a meeting that shows the growing role of this cooperation format in reinforcing the bilateral and regional dialogue, in promoting the economic interests and in diversifying cooperation.

The main topic of the meeting regarded the cross-border projects in terms of transport, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, research and development, science and technology, environmental protection and people-to-people exchange.

In the context, Victor Ponta reviewed and hailed the progress made at the China-CEE Summit held in Bucharest in 2013, as laid down in the Declaration adopted last year.

The Romanian delegation headed by Premier Ponta held several bilateral meetings in Belgrade, with Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, as well as with China's Prime Minister Li Keqiang.

Bilateral trade exchanges between Romania and China surged by over 24 percent over Jan.-Sept. 2014, and Romania's exports to China went up over 21 percent. "Romania considers that we can reach the target of 5 billion dollars overall," the source says.
