Zika infection in child coming from French Guiana reported by Health Ministry
Romania's Health Ministry got the confirmation of a second case of Zika virus infection; the second patient is a 10-years-old child residing in French Guiana, on a visit to relatives in Romania.
According to the ministry's website, the child entered Romania on 12 July, and one day later he had symptoms including fever, rash and muscle pains; all symptoms subsided within 24 hours.
The child reported to the Victor Babes hospital in Bucharest (specialized in infectious and tropical disease), and was admitted there considering the residence in a region where the Zika virus is actively transmitted. The patient was released on Monday, and the family got all the specific recommendations in this case. A laboratory report confirmed the virus on Tuesday, the Health Ministry mentioned.
