Tourism : Greece continues to top Romanians' holiday destination preferences

Greece continues to top Romanians' holiday destination preferences, considering the number of packages sold in travel agencies, Alin Burcea, First Vice-President of the National Travel Agencies Association (ANAT), has told Agerpres.

"Considering the number of people buying holidays through agencies, Greece continues to be on the first place, but, in terms of volume and sales figure, Turkey is the best-selling destination, as the packages for Turkey are more expensive, given that most hotels there are five-star. In Greece there are also hotels of one star, one star and a half, two and three, guesthouses ... you have it all. Important is the fact that, for two weeks, when Greece straightened out the situation with its foreign creditors, no one withdrew. It is true that the sales have decreased, not everybody understands what is happening, they see something on TV and they get scared. Now, the sales for Greece have picked up," said Alin Burcea.

As to the Romanian seaside, the ANAT representative estimates that at the end of the season there will be increases similar to those recorded in the 2014 season.

"The Romanian seaside sells better than last year. Although the start was not too good, there is growth. I think the increase compared to last year's will be 2 to 5pct. Last-minute holidays draw as much as last year, but early bookings are important for agencies. Unfortunately, the sales of packages for mountain and spa resorts through agencies are slow, but exist," Burcea added.
