Tourism: Romania will not participate in any international tourism fairs

Romania has not applied to participate in any international tourism fairs, such as World Travel Market London, FITUR Madrid or ITB Berlin and checks its first absence from the London fair after 40 years, according to representatives of the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) and Incoming Association Romania (AIR) in a press release on last Wednesday.

In this context, the two associations draw the government's attention on the total neglect of incoming tourism in an open letter addressed to the provisional minister of economy, entrepreneurship and tourism, Virgil Popescu.

According to data supplied by Eurostat, Romania recorded, in July 2021 the biggest drop of incoming tourism in EU, compared to the previous year, facing a 90% drop of the number of nights spent by foreigners in accommodation units.

According to the source, the most important tourism events held abroad have already been launched and are registering participants (World Travel Market London, FITUR Madrid, ITB Berlin, etc).

ANAT and AIR request the ministry to communicate as soon as possible the strategy of Romania's promotion on long and short term and the list of international events in which the ministry will participate with stands in the rest of 2021 and in 2022. ANAT and AIR also ask representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism to speed up the publication of regulations on exhibitors' participation (licensed travel agencies, accommodation structures, promotion organizations) in Romania's national stand. Until then, Romania marks its first absence in 40 years in World Travel Market London, which will open its gates in less than two weeks”, the press release shows.
