Romania commits to all obligations under Kyoto Protocol

Romania will abide by all its obligations following its adoption of the Kyoto Protocol, and the Romanian authorities back the project of Durban Platform regarding climate change, says Elena Dumitru, vice-general secretary with the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry during the 18th session of the conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Changes (UNFCCC) in Doha.

'Romania will commit to all the obligations incurred after adopting the Kyoto Protocol in the second commitment period and will encourage the involvement of the other parties in the conventions, together with the European Union. Romania's government takes energy efficiency quite seriously by implementing the proper measures in order to observe the environment legislation, and respecting the flexible mechanisms in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol,' Dumitru said.

Chief of Romanian delegation in Doha added that Romania supports and encourages a global approach to Durban Platform which prepares the future global agreement in the field of climate change meant to settle the mandatory commitments for all the parties to the convention.

The 18th session of the conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Changes (UNFCCC) took place in Doha.

Romania's delegation was made up of officials of the Ministry of the Environment and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
