Romania, one of the most active markets for IPO in Central and Eastern Europe

Romania is one of the most active markets for initial public offerings (IPO) in Central and Eastern Europe, Chairman of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) Lucian Anghel told a news conference on Thursday.

"Over the past 12 months, there have been four companies from different sectors, which shows an increased interest of both market investors and companies in listing. We have more than 30 brokers. The last 10 brokers run somewhere around 1 percent. The last 20 brokers on the capital market are running a few percentage points. I think the capital market offers increasingly more alternatives and opportunities for entrepreneurs," Anghel said.

According to him, Romanian entrepreneurs are considering increasingly more seriously floating their companies on the capital market.

"We have more and more discussions with Romanian entrepreneurs who are considering increasingly more seriously floating their companies on the capital market. We always encourage listed companies to launch a stock option plan for employees, which would benefit both the companies and retention and the development of the capital market. When talking about the stock option plan, I do not mean private companies only, but also to the state-run ones. This is an asset that other companies that are not listed do not have. We strongly recommend such instrument, especially as there are a number of tax benefits for companies to implement such a system," said Anghel.
