Voinea (BNR): 11% of the active non-financial companies had banking loans at the end of 2016

A percentage of 11.2% of the active non-financial companies have a banking loan according to the data at the end of 2016, stated on Wednesday Liviu Voinea, vice –governor of the BNR, in a conference organised by Coface.

From a total of 608,246, to be  more precise, the active non-financial companies, namely those who presented their balance at the ministry of public finances, a number of 68,088 have a banking loan at the end of 2016, 11,2% respectively, out of which 8% only from banks and 3,2%from banks and IFNs.The average value of the banking loans from the stock offered to the companies is of 78,300 lei, a reduced value which makes  us  think about the financing of some investment projects. Firstly, each of them has an issue with bankability which comes from low capitalisation. The starting social capital is still 200 lei, and a number of 268,670 companies have negative capital. Which means that the debts wasted the capital. These companies should, normally, get capitalised or go out of the market. Unfortunately, law 31/1990 does not include sanctions, and the situation of the companies with losses year after year and subsides from loans from shareholders must be the object of an analysis of all involved factors’ Voinea said.

According to him, the difference between total indebtedness and total creditation hides the competition for the local banks outside the domestic banking sector, namely, the non-residential banks, IFNs, buyers of non-performing loan packages, which practically change in the financial environment and in the starting stage, the online loan, financial technological innovations.

The analysis of the structure of the liabilities of the Romanian companies show that they finance themselves  especially through debts,68%of the total, according to the data at the end of 2015, thus they are weakly capitalised. The most important are the debts to the commercial partners, 19% of the liabilities and those to affiliated entities and shareholders, 13%. Over the last 20 years there has been a significant change of the structure of the liabilities through the increase in the share of the debt in the total of the resources of the companies over capitals. The share of the debts in the liabilities  increased three times over 20% in 1994 to 68% at present. Moreover, starting with 2000 there was a reduction of the quality of the capital owned by the companies’ the BNR official showed.

According to the quoted source, the total indebtedness of the non-financial companies and of the population is 42% of GDP out of which 26% of GDP is total indebtedness of the non-financial companies.
