EY: Romania, second M&A market in the region, very close to Poland

Romania is the second Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) market in the region, it has overrun the Czech Republic in terms of volume, on Tuesday said Iulia Bratu, Head of Lead Advisory, EY Romania, at the ZF Top Tranzactii 2024 select event.

"In Romania, in the first five months of 2024 v the same period of 2023, we find a fantastic stability on both the volume, we have 110 v 107 transactions inked at five months, and the value. From a regional outlook, it is a third consecutive year when we could say that Romania ranks second, already overrunning the Czech Republic. We used to rank third, after Czech and Poland in terms of volume. If the Romanian market used to be around 200 transactions per year, while Poland was a 400-transaction market per year, currently the difference between Poland and Romania is marginal. We talks about 246 v 253 transactions. We ranl second, very, very close to Poland," Iulia Bratu said.

She added that an average transaction in Romania is around 40 million euros, for quite some time, and yet the dynamic on the average and large transactions gets more and more outlined.

Bratu said that in 2023, in Romania were inked as many as 241 transactions, out of which 30% have had the communicated value, while for the rest of 70% estimates were operated.

"The EY estimate for the total market's value places it in the 6-7 billion euros interval, and the 6.5 billion euros interval is the estimate for the end of 2023. It is a strategic investors- dominated market, which are operating almost 90% of the investments," Iulia Bratu said.
