Forbes: The richest Romanian, Ion Tiriac, ranks 1,867 worldwide

Businessman Ion Tiriac is again the only Romanian included in the 2018 edition of Forbes’ annual billionaires list, with a fortune of USD 1.2 billion, which puts him to no. 1,867 worldwide, romaniajournal.ro reads.

Compared to last year, the former tennis player had a fortune of USD 1.1 billion, ranking 1,795 worldwide in the Forbes top.

At the top of the list for the first time is Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. He’s the first centibillionaire on the list with USD 112 billion.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates dropped one spot from last year to no. 2, with USD 90 billion.

American business magnate and investor Warren Buffett sits at the third spot on the list with USD 84 billion. No. 4 is chairman and CEO of luxury goods company LVMH, Bernard Arnault, and his family, with USD 72 billion. At no. 5 is Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, with an estimated USD 71 billion.

The magazine highlights the more than 2,200 billionaires around the world who hold a combined net worth of USD 9.1 trillion.

67 percent of the 2018 list are self-made billionaires and a record 255 women are included in this year’s rankings.  Chinese entrepreneur Zhou Qunfei is the richest self-made woman on the list with a net worth of USD 7.8 billion. 

US President Donald Trump has fallen 222 places on the Forbes annual rich list, after his estimated worth of USD 3.5 billion fell to USD 3.1 billion.
