Insolvencies down by over 28pct, Jan.-May 2019, to 2,636


The number of companies and individuals facing insolvency declined by 28.49 percent in the first five months of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018, to 2,636 insolvencies, according to data posted on the website of the National Companies Register Office (ONRC).

Most of them were in Bucharest, 468, down 36.5 percent from the same period of 2018. The ranking continues with the counties of Bihor, 211 insolvencies (-10.97 percent), Constanta, 147 (-24.23 percent) and Timis, 132 (- 27.07 percent).

By business field, the largest number of insolvencies January-May was recorded in wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, respectively 808 (-28.5 percent).

In May, 567 insolvencies were recorded, most of them in Bucharest (102).

At the same time, in the first five months of 2019,6,637 companies suspended their activity, down 20.65 percent from the similar period of 2018, and 14,157 firms were dissolved, 10.12 percent less than in January - May 2018.
