The producer of packaging Promateris has invested 2.5 billion euro in the Buftea factory

Promateris, Romanian industrial group and leader in Central and Eastern Europe in the production of biodegradable and compostable packaging has announced on Thursday that they invested 2.5 million euro in the production line for compostable packaging in the Buftea factory. The company will invest another 15 million euro in the next five years in projects to observe the principles of the Green Pact launched in the EU. ‘ The invested capital in the development of the production capacity for compostable packaging will contribute to the increase of the individual turnover of the company by 53% between 2019 and 2021’ the company informed.

 

Similarly, following the implementation of this project, there were 39 new workplaces created in  Buftea, Ilfov county. The investment was cofinanced through grants offered by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in the programme ‘ The growth of SMEs in Romania’ which offered a grant of 950,000 euro.

 

 ‘We are happy to announce the finalisation of the first project for investments developed with Innovation Norway. Between 2018 and 2021, Promateris has invested over 10 million euro in packaging made from renewable sources and we do not intend to stop here. Our objective is to invest another 15 million euro in the next five years in projects which observe the principles of the Green

In the project Green Europe, Promateris signed an agreement of partnership with the Norwegian company BioBag, in view to transferring knowledge and exporting compostable products made in Romania to Norway and the Scandinavian countries.

 

Besides the generation of a growth of the turnover of over nine million euro between 2019 and 2021, the project implemented with the help of Innovation Norway supported the transition of Promateris for the decarbonisation of the production and the production of products with reduced impact of carbon.In the project, there was installed a recycling line for waste which recycled in the first year of installation 1,131 tons of technological waste.

In the first quarter of 2021,Promateris has obtained a second grant from Innovation Norway worth 744,000 euro through the same financing line. The objective of the project is to produce biodegradable and compostable raw material,based on corn starch in the Buftea factory. The products made of corn starch has a reduced impact on the environment by comparison to the plastic packaging and in the context of the European Green Pact, at present, there is a growing demand for such products. Once the project is implemented, Promateris will become the first company in Eastern Europe which produces raw material based on corn starch.

In the first three months of 2021, the Promateris group, which includes the results of the Biodeck campaign, has reached a consolidated turnover of 35 million lei, up by 23% against the same period of last year. As a consequence,Promateris has a EBITDA of 4.6 million lei, up by 7% against 2019. The company aims at a turnover of 250 million lei in 2025, with EBITDA estimated at 35 million lei.
