A delegation of the Central Committee of Fatah received at the Chamber of Deputies in Bucharest

The relations between Romania and the National Palestinian Authority (NPA) were the subject dealt with on Monday by chairman of the commission on foreign policy in the Chamber of Deputies Laszlo Borbely during the meeting with a delegation of the Central Committee of Fatah, headed by Mohamad Shtayyeh, member of the Fatah Central Committee, chief secretary of the presidential office of the National Palestinian Authority.

'The visit is part of the intensification of the bilateral relations between the two friendly states and of the survey of the latest developments referring to the peace process in the area,' reads a press release the Chamber of Deputies sent on Monday.

Borbely emphasized the fact that Romania supported the inter-Palestinian reconciliation as an important element for the success of the peace process. Romania supports the existence of two independent states, Palestine and Israel, which should coexist in peace and security.

According to the above-mentioned release, Romania thinks that the existence of a viable Palestinian State can only be achieved following Palestinian-Israeli direct negotiations, with the support of the main international players involved, especially the US, the EU, etc.

'Chairman Borbely concluded that Romania supported the building and consolidation of the Palestinian institutions democratically built as a preceding stage of setting up an independent Palestinian State and as a means to improve the security conditions in the Palestinian territories,' also reads the release.
