A C-17 Globemaster III aircraft carrying 100,000 protective coveralls from South Korea landed in Otopeni Tuesday night, informs the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

The MApN asked the Multinational Strategic Transport Unit operating from the Papa Air Base in Hungary to carry out a new emergency air mission, to bring to Romania another 45 tonnes of medical protective equipment from Seoul, said the same source.

The approximately 100,000 protective coveralls were purchased by the Romanian state through the National Office for Centralised Procurement and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, as part of the efforts to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in our country.

The flight mission, the costs of which are covered by the United States in supporting the Romanian Government, is being performed by a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

STATEMENT BY AMBASSADOR ADRIAN ZUCKERMAN ON THE THIRD SAC C-17 FLIGHT TO ROMANIA

April 7, 2020

We are proud that we were able to assist the Government of Romania in transporting much-needed supplies from South Korea to Romania. I would also like to thank the Strategic Airlift Capability team for undertaking this important mission.

The Strategic Partnership between the United States and Romania has never been stronger and benefits our peoples in numerous areas. We will continue to strengthen and broaden our partnership not only during this crisis, but also through the rebuilding of our economies.
