An official visit of PM Victor Ponta to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates from April 29 through May 5

The Senate leadership approved on Monday the participation of five senators in an official visit of Prime Minister Victor Ponta to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates from April 29 through May 5.

The Senate's delegation comprises of Senators Ilie Sarbu, leader of the Social Democratic Party group; Titus Corlatean, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Ion Popa, leader of the National Liberal Party group; Dumitru Pelican, leader of the Conservative group; and Csaba Pataki, secretary of the Hungarian Democrat Union of Romania group.

"The main goals of this visit are the dynamization of the political and diplomatic dialogue, and the enhancement of the economic relations with the four countries in areas such as the constructions, the infrastructure, the agriculture, the energy, the IT, oil and gas, and tourism industries. The visit also provides an opportunity to discuss matters on the international agenda, such as the security evolutions in the region (the situation in Syria and Iraq, the political crisis in Yemen, the regional emergency of the ISIL [Islamic State] and the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file)," states the internal memorandum approved by the Senate's Standing Bureau on Monday.

According to this document, the participation of the Senate's delegation allows ensuring the complementarity of the governmental agenda with the Parliament's one as regards Romania's foreign policy priorities and objectives and the convergence of actions of the two institutions in the foreign affairs field.

A letter of PM Ponta to the Senate mentioned that the Government provides a charter flight for the travel; the Senate will cover the expenses of the five senators for accommodation, daily allowances and medical insurance for the aforementioned period.
