Anne Brasseur (PACE): Europe faces terrible crisis; we can find solutions by means of dialogue
Anne Brasseur, the president of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe declared in Craiova, on Thursday, that Europe is now facing a terrible crisis and dialogue is the way in which solutions can be found.
Anne Brasseur said that besides the crisis in Ukraine, there are other crises in Europe, “which we tend to forget”. For that reason Europe should concentrate on fighting corruption, exclusion and stopping a wave of xenophobia, of hatred found more and more often in European political environments.
The PACE president met representatives of county and local public administration and MPs at Dolj County Council.
She told the people present that PACE, which gathers representatives of national parliaments of 47 European states, is a school for all members of national legislative bodies, a way of having contacts with more countries,of learning about the functioning of parliaments and institutions of all member states.
“Dialogue comes first and foremost at all levels, and that is why the day before yesterday, in Paris, I had a meeting with Mr. Sergey Narashkin, the president of the State Duma in Russia. It is true that after the annexation of Crimea in spring we suspended the voting right of the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly, but that does not mean we do not want to speak to each others. Violence is not the key to problems we are facing, but dialogue is the way in which we can find a solution to these matters,” said the PACE president.
