  • In  August  2017, the  average  gross  nominal  earnings  were  3290  lei,  by  1.2%  lower  than  the  one registered in July 2017.

  • The average net nominal earnings were 2364 lei, decreasing as against the previous month with 27 lei (?1.1%).

  • The highest values of the average net nominal earnings were recorded in computer programming, consultancy  and  related  activities  (including  information  service  activities)  (5930  lei),  while  the lowest in accommodation and food service activities (1406 lei).

The gross average salary reached 3,290 lei in August, down 1.2pct from July, while the net average salary decreased by 1.1pct to 2,364 lei, according to the data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). 

Within this margin, the highest amounts of the net nominal average salary were recorded in IT services, 5,930 lei respectively, and the lowest ones in hotels and restaurants (1,406 lei). 

According to the quoted source, compared to August 2016, the net nominal average salary increased by 13.9pct, and the real salary index was 112.6pct. 

Compared to the trend of consumer prices, the real salary index was 99.1pct for August 2017 compared to the previous month, according to the official statistics. 

The INS data show that in August 2017, in most economic activities, net average salaries were lower than in July of the same year. 

According to the statistics, in the public sector there were decreases in the net average salary compared to the previous month in education (-2.3pct) as a result of the reduction in the amounts of the teachers' hourly payment during school holidays, as well as in healthcare and social care (-0.6pct). 

The net average salary increased slightly in public administration (+ 0.7pct) in August 2017 compared to the previous month.
