Bottled water market in Romania is 1.4 billion lei

Bottled water market in Romania reaches, at the end of 2011 almost 12 million hectoliters worth 1.4 billion lei, a press release of Rio Bucovina says.
This quantity is the consumption of approximately 54.55 litrespersonyear, a moderate increase of consumption by 3% against 2010.

The Romanian consumer spent, approximately 1.16 leiperson in 2011. Lately, the average shelf price of 2011 was approximately 1.2 leilitre.

According to the Rio Bucovina data, the Romanians prefer natural mineral water brands or table water brands in 90% of the cases both due to the name of the Romanian natural water and due to the price of the imported ones.
Over 60% of the consumers are women, and over 80% of the consumers drink still water and carbonated water as such, the combination with alcohol has dropped at 17%.

According to historical areas, the capital city is the largest consumer of still water ( natural mineral or table) over 60% of the inhabitants consuming daily still water. Analysing the consumption per regions, the most is consumed in the southern part of Romania and Dobrogea, second is Moldova, followed by Transylvania and Banat. The consumption of bottled water in the rural areas is limited by the existence of an alternative source of water such as spring water of fountain water, close to the household.

The consumption of still water increases against the carbonated one. According to the latest data, the consumption of still water is approximately 56 – 60% and that of carbonated water is 40 – 44%.

Referring to the evolution of the market and the consumption of natural mineral water in 2012, the Rio Bucovina specialists appreciate that it will not drop and it will have a growing trend between 3% and 5% .
