Celebration of the International Francophonie Day by Permanent Mission of Romania to UN

The Permanent Mission of Romania to the United Nations hosted on the 21st of March 2018 an event celebrating the International Francophonie Day organized in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York.

To mark the 25th anniversary of Romania’s membership in the International Organization of La Francophonie and the centennial of the Grand Union, acclaimed musicians, soprano Felicia Filip, pianist Cristian Niculescu and cellist Anton Niculescu delighted the francophone diplomatic audience and the Romanian community in New York with a rich repertoire, featuring Romanian, French and American composers

The Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations, Ambassador Ion Jinga, underlined in his opening remarks our country’s attachment to the core values of La Francophonie and, for the matter, of multilateral diplomacy: embracing tolerance and diversity, working together for the attainment of common goals, building on multilingualism, openness, inclusivity, equity and equal representation.

Ambassador Jinga presented Romania’s contribution for the promotion of the French language in interna?ional affairs, in education and research, în entrepreneurship, in mediation, conflict resolution and peace building, and reiterated its plea to continue employing this sturdy channel of communication and of sharing of good practices în the global arena.

The event is also part of the public diplomacy campaign for the promotion of Romania’s candidature for a non-permanent member seat in the United Nations’ Security Council, for the 2020-2021 term.
