Code Yellow for scorching heat and high thermal discomfort, extended throughout Saturday
Meteorologists have extended throughout Saturday, June 25, the Code Yellow warning for relentless heat and high thermal discomfort, issued for ten counties in the west and south of Romania.
The counties under the code are: Giurgiu, Teleorman, Gorj, Dolj, Mehedinti, Caras Severin, Timis, Arad, Bihor and Satu Mare.
According to the National Weather Administration (ANM), June 24 — 25, in Banat, Crisana, Maramures, the south of Oltenia and Muntenia and on limited areas in the other regions, the weather will still be hot. The highs will frequently reach around 35 degrees Celsius, and at night the temperature will not drop below 20 degrees.
The thermal discomfort will be high and the temperature-humidity index will exceed a critical 80.
Meteorologists point out that in the mountain and hill areas the atmospheric instability will be high at times, mostly in the after-noon and at night, with showers, lightning, short wind gusts and hail in some places.
ANM has also issued a Code Yellow warning valid Thursday, June 23, for relentless heat and high thermal discomfort valid in 21 counties and Bucharest City.
Thus, in most parts of Muntenia and Dobrogea, in the southern half of Oltenia and Moldavia and on limited areas in the other regions, there will be scorching heat. The maximum temperatures will frequently reach around 35 Celsius degrees and nights will be hot, with the lows not getting under 20 degrees.
The thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index will exceed a critical 80, mainly in the plain and plateau areas.
In the mountain areas, in the north-east and central Romania and locally in the rest of the country, the atmospheric instability will be high at times, mostly in the after-noon and evening, with showers, lighting, short wind gusts and possibly hail.
