Constanta mayor, PSD lawmaker prosecuted by Anti-corruption Directorate

Constanta City Mayor Radu Mazare and Social Democrat Party (PSD) deputy Radu Babus were indicted by National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors in a case related to the sale of a plot of land upon which the Casino of the Black Sea resort of Mamaia is built.

DNA has extended the scope of the criminal investigation that led to Radu Mazare's indictment in February 2014 for abuse of office, the mayor being now also accused of intentionally setting a lower price, when compared to the commercial value, for the public authority's assets that were to be sold.

According to a DNA press release, criminal investigations began, as well, for PSD deputy Radu Babus, former General Director of the Constanta County Autonomous Administration for the Exploitation of Public and Private Domain, for the same charge.

In February, Mazare was placed under criminal investigation in this case for one count of abuse of office against the interests of persons, and two counts of abuse of office against public interest, in connection to the restitution of some plots of land.
