Controversy on the OUG on the laws of justice. The European Commission: We are following developments with concern
The European Commission is closely following, with concern, the changes made to the Romanian justice laws and will analyze them all very carefully, an EC spokesman said on Wednesday for hotnews.ro.
Christian Wigand, spokesperson for the European Commission, quoted First Vice-President Frans Timmermans as saying clearly in the European Parliament debate: While continuing the dialogue with the Romanian authorities, in the spirit of cooperation and in the context of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, the European Commission will draw the right conclusions if the amendments to the laws of justice, criminal codes and to the laws on conflict of interest and corruption do not take these concerns into account.
The EC spokesman added that the Commission is following the latest developments with concern and will closely analyze the changes. Independent and professional justice is of paramount importance, he added, according to the source.
The Government adopted Monday morning the Emergency Ordinance to amend and supplement some normative acts regarding the laws of justice.
