Cristian Popa: BNR did not exaggerate with interest rate drops

The National Bank of Romania did not exaggerate with reducing interest rates, it was gradual and there was dosage, said Cristian Popa, a member in the BNR Administration Board.

A certain balance was ensured with the decisions made, but it is not easy to obtain or maintain. If we had exaggerated it could have been seen in the first stage and in a few months, half a year, it could have been seen in inflation,” Popa said at the debate “Financial Market Pulse”organized by the Association for Relations with Exchange Rate Investors in Romania (ARIR).

Capital market are now on an ascending trend. BET, the main index of Bucharest Stock Exchange had reached historic high values. At present, the Romanians' money is mainly in bank deposits, but it is a moment favorable for investments. It is a good moment for us all to be more active, to contribute to pension funds and even for pillar III. I heard many young people say they have no plans for their pension funds, but unfortunately it is a wrong perspective and a proof we should place more accent on financial education,” said Daniela Serban, ARIR president and co-founder.

ARIR is a non governmental and non profit organization set up to offer a platform for the development of professionals in relation with investors and to contribute to the implementation of the best practices in communicating with investors. It was set up in November 2018 and has members listed companies, companies with potential in becoming listed companies, fund administrators, professionals in relation with investors and consultants. Founding members are Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), ALRO, Electromagnetica, Franklin Templeton Management, Bucharest branch, Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica, Teraplast, Transelectrica, Daniela Serban, Cosmin Raduta and Tony Romani, while Electrica, OMV Petrom, Antibiotice, Purcari, Idea Bank, BRK Financial Group, Transilvania Bank and Transgaz joined as associate members, Innova Project Consulting, Envisia, RTPR and Mazars as affiliate members.
