CURS Poll: PSD still ranks first, PNL and AUR racing for the second position
The majority of the Romanians believe that things in Romania are heading rather in the wrong direction, according to a survey by the Centre for Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS) published on Sunday.
The survey reveals that 69% of the respondents believe that things in Romania are heading in a bad direction, while 22% believe they are heading in a good direction. 9% did not know or did not answer.
Also, 41% of respondents think that in a year's time their situation will be worse, 38% - which it will be the same, 18% - that it will be better, and 3% do not know or did not answer.
According to the CURS survey, the PSD (Social Democratic Party) remains the favorite in Romanians’ voting intentions, followed by the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Union of Romanians (AUR) . For the first time, Diana Sosoaca’s party, SOS Romania, is rated with a voting intention of 5%, which is the electoral threshold.
PSD is credited with 31%, PNL, ranks second, with 19%, closely followed by AUR, with 18%. The Save Romania Union (USR) has an electoral share of 11%, while the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) is below the electoral threshold, 4%.
60% of the respondents believe that Romania will not enter Schengen this year – 33% rather not, 27% definitely not. 41% of CURS respondents claim that the failure to join Schengen is due to Austria, while 21% say it is the fault of the Romanian government.
The survey was conducted at the level of the nation from 12-22 September among a sample of 1,008 respondents aged 18 and over. The maximum margin of error for the whole sample is +/-3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
The collection of the data was carried out by face-to-face interview in the respondents' homes and sample validation based on the latest data provided by the National Institute of Statistics.
