"Defence and Dialogue in Eastern Europe" event organised in Bucharest, 31 July through 5 August


The current security challenges at Romania and the NATO member states will be debated at the "Defence and Dialogue in Eastern Europe" (DDEE) event organised in Bucharest, 31 July through 5 August, a release informs. 

The hybrid threats, the disinformation campaigns in the past years or the large-scale cyber attacks will be debated by international experts alongside Romanian officials during the event unfolded under the NATO aegis. The secretary of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), Victor Micula, the Major General Paul Hurmuz, deputy with the Department for defence and planning policy with the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), the Head of the Integration, Partnership and Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Department within the NATO political affairs and security policies Division, James Mackey, the political counselor and interim deputy chief of the U. S. Embassy in Bucharest, David Schlaefer, the secretary of state with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MAI), Dr. Raed Arafat, Head of the Emergency Situations Department, Kimberly Zenz on behalf of the U. S. Atlantic Committee, representatives of the MApN, MAI and Romanian opinion-makers. 

The event organised by the Euro Atlantic Diplomacy Society will cluster under the same umbrella approximately 200 young people from 36 countries, and the debates will focus on very stringent topics, such as cyber security, the anti-missile shield, the enhanced/tailored forward presence, and the combating of disinformation, projecting stability, the NATO-EU relationship. 

The event will also include a NATO decision process's simulation, dedicated to the young. 

The debates will take place at the "Carol I" Central University Library (1-2 august). The participants in the event will also pay a research visit to the Land Forces Staff (2 August) and will play the diplomat of a NATO member state or partner within a large simulation to take place at JW Marriott Grand Hotel Bucharest (3-4 August).
