Deputy premier Costin Borc in Brussels: We talked about automobile and defence industries, Oltchim, Uranium company, Post and CEH

Deputy premier Costin Borc, minister of economic, business environment and small companies, was in Brussels to prepare the Competitiveness Council to be held on Friday and met three European commissioners. He approached “important topics for Romanian economy”, the minister informs. He discussed with three European commissioners about the initiative of the Ministry of Economy to connect industry, local suppliers, innovative start-ups and research centres to find solutions for the automobile industry and other topics.

“With Mrs Bienkowska (European commissioner for the domestic market, industry and entrepreneurship) we discussed about our initiative and representatives of Romanian businessmen to bring together industry, local suppliers, innovative start-ups and universities/ research centres to find solutions for the automobile industry. Solutions for autonomous vehicles or for electric cars can be found with such a partnership. Another topic approached was that of the defence industry, where we want to participate with a Romanian player in developing efforts of the European industry and to revive the Romanian industry and research in the field of defence,” said Borc, quoted by the ministry of economy.

“We will work with the Commission to put together structural funds and those from Juncker plan and private finances to build seed funding for innovative start-ups and then have scale-up for them,”Borc said at the end of the meeting.

The last meeting attended by the Romanian deputy premier was at EC headquarters with Margrethe Vestager, the European commissioner for competition.

“We evoked the stage of files we have with DG Competition. We had good progress in the state aid file at Oltchim and our request for CN Uranium will receive an answer this week. We also talked about the Romanian Post and Hunedoara Energy Complex. Many difficult files, untouched for many years, which we try to solve one by one,” Borc said.
