China is a privileged partner for Romania, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea said at the official meeting with China's Vice Prime Minister Zhang Gaoli, held on Thursday at Victoria Palace (the Gov't offices).

Dragnea stressed that the Governments of the two countries "have taken important steps recently on enforcing in the economic field the commitments made at political level."

"The relations between Romania and the People's Republic of China are old and special ties. It's a partnership between friends, regardless of the political changes that have occurred over time. China is a privileged partner for Romania. After the visit I paid to Beijing in March, I have noticed with pleasure that the two sides have boosted their political dialogue. We very much appreciate the warm welcome we had in Beijing in early September, and the exceptional level of our talks. The Romanian side takes significant action for the results of these meetings to contribute to real progress for implementing the things agreed upon by the two prime ministers. Both sides took important steps to enforce in the economic field the commitments made at political level and to transform them in concrete projects that will contribute to the country's development and to job creation," Liviu Dragnea said.

On his part, the Chinese Vice Prime Minister said he is happy to be in Romania; he also made reference to the enjoyable and fruitful discussion he had with the Romanian Deputy Prime Minister in March in Beijing.

"You were particularly in charge of institutions dealing with the relations between the two countries and you brought a very important contribution to the development of the bilateral relations, and for that let me express my full appreciation. ... Also at today's meeting, I'm willing to swap views on topics both parties are interested in," Zhang Gaoli said.

The Chinese official also referred to the meeting he had with Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Tuesday in New York, in the context of the United Nations General Assembly.

Attending the meeting at Victoria Palace on behalf of Romania were also Transport Minister Ioan Rus, Minister-delegate for Budget Darius Valcov and Minister-delegate for Higher Education and Research, Mihnea Costoiu.
