Dereck Hogan: the destabilisation actions in the Republic of Moldova are not surprising; Russia will continue with such tactics

Principal deputy assistant secretary within the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States Department of State, Dereck Hogan, stated on Tuesday that the destabilization actions in the Republic of Moldova are not ‘surprising’ and that Russia will continue with such tactics

Our approach on such challenges aim at three things: one – to share information we have with the government of the Republic of Moldova. It is important they know what we know when it comes to what Russia is planning, is the same approach we had as regards Ukraine in the case of Russian invasion. The second thing is to make public what Russia is trying to do so that everybody knows – these are the real intentions of Russia in Moldova as well as in other countries. Thirdly, to support the government of the Republic of Moldova and the Moldova people (…).Russia will continue with such tactics, but we don’t see imminent danger from Transniester and we think sharing information with the Moldova government, public exposure of Russia’s actions and the continuation of the support for the Republic of Moldova represent firm foundation’ Dereck Hogan said in a meeting with several journalists.

He mentioned the support of 320 million dollars for the Republic of Moldova as regards economy, energy, humanitarian support.

‘We are working with the American Congress to unblock another 300 million dollars for the Republic of Moldova as regards the domain of energy. This, together with what Romania is doing in this matter, I think will reassure the government and the people in Moldova that we support them’ said the American official.

Similarly, the American official mentioned the joint efforts with other countries to support the sovereignty, democracy and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau  of European and Eurasian affairs of the State Department of the US, Derek Hogan and the state secretary for strategic affairs in the MAE, Iulian Fota coordinated on Tuesday a new round of the Strategic Dialogue Romania-the US.
