eJobs: Remote jobs offer falls first time in three years

Applications for remote jobs are at their highest level since 2020 so far, even though the number of positions offered for this type of work has fallen for the first time in the last three years, according to an analysis published Wednesday by representatives of an online recruitment platform.

"The massive return of employees to the office has already been discussed for more than a year now, but so far this has been done in small, gradual steps and without seeing a major impact on the number of remote positions advertised. The explanation lies in the fact that employers knew that this option had become, over time, an important condition for those seeking employment, a condition they could not ignore in a climate characterized by a shortage of candidates," said Roxana Draghici, eJobs head of sales.

According to the eJobs data, if between February and March 2022, there were posted almost 3,000 remote jobs on ejobs.ro, in the same period in 2023 the number dropped to about 1,500. More than 116,000 applications were registered for these in the last month of this year, while in the period February - March 2022 the number of applications for remote jobs was around 104,000.

The call-centre/BPO sector continues to post the most such jobs, albeit at half the number compared to February - March 2022.

A reduced number of remote jobs is also recorded for employers in advertising/marketing/PR, IT/telecom, training and services. Most of the positions posted in the last month are for entry level candidates with up to two years' experience.

Most interested in these jobs are candidates in the 25 - 35 age group, followed by first-time job seekers or recent entrants to the labour market, i.e. young people aged 18 to 24. At the same time, the 36 - 45 year old segment generates three times less applications for this job category, while for candidates aged over 45 it is an option that is almost not taken into account, with less than 5,000 applications registered in the last month.

At the moment, there are more than 28,000 jobs available on the eJobs.ro platform.
